Academic Health Professions

The Professional Language Course (BSK) Academic Health Professions is aimed at physicians from abroad who wish to prepare for the professional language examination of the Medical Association.

The following situations are practiced in the course:

• the medical history interview with a patient,
• the written documentation of the case history interview and
• the case presentation in a doctor-doctor interview.

These three points correspond to the requirements of the professional language examination.

In addition, the German names of medical terms are learned. Further course contents include knowledge of the German health care system as well as insights into the daily routine in clinics and medical practices.
Two textbooks are provided in the course.
The course can be financed by the BAMF or the Agentur für Arbeit or Jobcenter. The course lasts 600 teaching units, which corresponds to four hours a day over a period of approximately half a year.
It is possible to take an exam while the course is still in progress. Registration for the examination takes place individually.

Within the framework of the job-related German language support according to § 45a AufenthG of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), the special module offers the basis for job-related language support in the context of recognition procedures of professional degrees for the following academic medical professions: Human medicine graduates. The special module enables an internally differentiated approach according to professions as well as specialties.

Participation in the special module is a step towards the development and expansion of communicative competence in the workplace, in which the technical and linguistic aspects are not separated from one another, but are taught in an interlocking manner.

600 units are planned for the introduction to the professional language examination before the Berlin Medical Association.

The competencies to be promoted are not limited to the teaching of basic language skills in the sense of linear language teaching, but include more far-reaching competencies, which are aimed in particular at the flexible, independent use of language in various professional situations.
The basis for this is the language certificate B2 according to CEFR.

• Apply for recognition at LaGeSo.
• Acknowledgement of receipt from LaGeSo means that the basic prerequisite (education in the home country) has been met.
• Issue of a TNB by BAMF on the basis of the above-mentioned confirmation of receipt.
• Registration of the TN at the locally responsible medical association with desired period of the examination.
